66 Days to Create a Writing Habit: Week Two

Okay, okay, my definition of a “week” is wonky. It was more than a week last time and just barely a week this time, but I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing my blog posts on the weekend. This weekend was a challenge because not only was it my birthday, but I was distracted by pop culture (as you’ll read about in my notes).

Nevertheless! I’m back to report on my progress, as promised. If you have no idea what the heck I’m talking about, check out my earlier blog post, 66 Days to Create a Writing Habit, where I explain all about this little writing experiment I’ve taken on and invite you to join me!

Day 12 – 156 words

Bleh. Tired.

Day 13 – 533 words

I was supposed to finish off this scene tonight but it didn’t happen. By the time all of the distractions died down, I was too tired to give it my all. The characters deserve to have my heart and soul in it for an emotional scene like this one.

Day 14 – 244 words

I need silence to write. This house is NEVER silent! Ugh!

Day 15 – 133 words

It’s my birthday tomorrow and no, I am not one of those people who looks forward to their birthday. Dread won over writing.

Day 16 – 0 words

Okay, this looks bad, but in my defence, it was my birthday and it actually wasn’t as horrible as I expected it to be. I wanted to enjoy it.

Day 17 – 1,018 words

I think this more than makes up for yesterday.

Day 18 – 244 words

Got a few words down, but I’ll be the first to admit it could have been more had Taylor Swift not dropped her GENIUS music video for “Look What You Made Me Do” tonight (I admit it; I’m a diehard Swiftie and have been since I was about sixteen years old).

Grand Total – 2,328 words

So it was a bit of a rough writing week. It’s okay. It happens to the best of us. I could make a bunch of excuses, like it was my birthday or Taylor Swift distracted me with her awesome new music, but excuses don’t do anything except validate inaction. Instead, I’ll just accept that it was a rough week and aim to be more consistent next week.

In the words of Miss Taylor…

Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time.

So here’s to rising up from the dead to deliver a killer comeback next week!

How did you do with your writing progress this week? Let me know about it on social media and in the comments. I love hearing from you. Remember to use the hashtag #66dayswrite on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to join in on this experiment.
